It started with U.S. import tari s on steel and aluminium in 2018. China, the EU and other countries retaliated with tari s on selected U.S. goods. The trade war entered a second phase on May 10, 2019, when President Trump increased U.S. tari s on $200 billion of imports from China from 10% to 25%. China announced a variety of tari s on $60 billion of imports from the U.S.. As an expert on international trade issues and close observer of the Trump administration‘s trade policy, Prof. Bradford Jensen will provide new insights. In the panel, Dr. Simone Wyss will join us to assess the implications for Switzerland and the strategy for Swiss (multinational) companies (such as Novartis). This is a public event of the Summer School in Law, Business & Economic Policy at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Basel. Prof. Brad Jensen teaches the Master course “Firms in the Global Business Environment” from July 15 to 25 which is part of the Summer School program of 2019. As head of Economic A airs at Novartis, Dr. Simone Wyss was the driver of a study on the possible implications of the trade war for Novartis.
