Helena Aicher: Ayahuasca & Analogues Psychedelic Studies at the Uni Zürich
Helena’s main academic background is in Psychology. During her time as clinical psychologist at the University Hospital of Psychiatry Zurich, Helena joined the Department of Neuropsychopharmacology and Brain Imaging to study the effects of psychedelics and meditation. For her PhD, she investigated the effects of ayahuasca and analogues on the relationship to oneself and others, psychotherapy-relevant processes, underlying mechanisms, and contextual modulators with trans-disciplinary and multimethod approaches. Helena is also working as a psychotherapist, including a limited medical use of psychedelics.
In her talk, Helena will focus on ayahuasca and the research surrounding ayahuasca-inspired formulations. She will provide an overview of the studies, which explore the basic neurobiological and psychological mechanisms as well as therapeutic potential of DMT/harmine formulations across various settings. Some promising findings will be highlighted and we’ll discuss how these formulations could impact the future of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
